Qatar’s earthmoving equipment market to grow at a CAGR of over 5%

Earthmoving equipment continues to hold the highest revenue share in the GCC construction equipment market. According to a report by 6Wresearch, the region’s construction equipment market will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6% from 2016 through 2022.

In Qatar, public infrastructure initiatives, railway developments, and stadium projects are fueling the country’s demand for heavy duty equipment and machinery. In fact, Qatar’s earthmoving equipment market is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 5% during 2016-2021, as per the report titled “Qatar Earthmoving Equipment Market by Type, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011-2021.”

The market of earthmoving equipment has been segmented into four categories: excavator, loader, motor grader, and bulldozer. Among these categories, the excavator segment dominated Qatar’s earthmoving equipment market in 2015, followed by loader, motor grader, and bulldozer segments.

The same trend is anticipated to continue over the next five years as well. Increasing government efforts to diversify the country’s economy into non-oil sector is favoring the construction and housing sectors, where excavators are being widely used to execute several tasks such as digging, extracting, trenching, and others. CAT, JCB, Volvo, Hyundai, and Komatsu are the top five players operating in the country’s earthmoving equipment market.

Qatar's Construction Equipment Rental Market to cross $1.9-billion

Qatar's construction equipment rental market is projected to cross the $1.9-billion mark over the next five years, thanks to a surging expatriate population and the growing construction activities coupled with increasing government expenditure.

Upcoming mega sports events, such as the World Cup 2022 as well as the IAAF World Athletics Championship 2019, are also playing a key role in boosting demand for construction equipment, stated TechSci Research in its report, "Qatar Construction Equipment Rental Market by Equipment Type, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2016 - 2022."

Doha is the dominating region in construction equipment rental market where a significant number of large-scale projects are being undertaken. Another key factor for this trend is the high purchasing cost of construction equipment, due to which construction companies prefer procuring equipment on rental basis.

In 2016, cranes dominated Qatar construction equipment rental market, and for the next five years it is expected to spearhead the market, owing to its use across residential/commercial setups, especially for high-rise buildings in the country.
