Welcome to Qatar Sports Infrastructure 2018

Qatar Sports Infrastructure is the first international exhibition for Sports Infrastructure in Qatar and the Middle East. In light of the preparations for the 2022 World Cup, Qatar Sports Infrastructure represents the ideal platform for planning, building new, and improving existing sports facilities.

83 commercial and investment sport opportunities worth a staggering QR 72bn over the next 7 years

Qatar gained global recognition among sports fans after winning the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in 2010. This was a historic moment for the country and an incredible achievement thanks to Qatar’s wise leadership and global ambitions.

Sport is firmly entrenched in the national agenda, detailed in the National Development Strategy, and celebrated each year during the National Sport Day.

Sport is also a powerful tool for economic development and Qatar has been remarkably successful by emerging as an international hub for sports industries, for staging large sporting events and for sports tourism.

During the Sport Business Opportunities Forum organized by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry showcased 83 commercial and investment opportunities worth a staggering QR72bn over the next 7 years. These include the construction of sports venues (QR30bn); sports venue operations and maintenance (QR5bn); sports events management (QR14bn); sporting goods and equipment (QR14bn); sport marketing projects (QR2.5bn); and other associated industries such as sports training, education, sports medicine, and collection and analysis of sports data.

Qatar’s physical sports infrastructure is already impressive, naming the Aspire Zone facilities as just one example, and this is set to become truly world-class as the World Cup stadiums are due to be completed by 2020. All this, coupled with Qatar’s ability to secure major sporting events such as handball, swimming, athletics, cycling, tennis and golf, places the country as a sports destination, boosting Qatar’s tourism sector and further diversifying its economy.

Qatar’s iconic stadiums’ construction reflect drive and innovation

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has announced the completion of the Khalifa International Stadium which will host 2022 World Cup matches through to the quarter-finals. Moreover, the Qatar Foundation Stadium, the proposed venue for fixtures up to the quarter-final stage, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019, according to a report by Ventures Onsite.

The Lusail Stadium will see both the opening and final matches. This 80,000-seater stadium, placed within Lusail City, is expected to be completed by 2020. Currently seeing early works is the 40,000-seat Ras Abu Aboud Stadium that will bring the design for legacy concept to reality, being one of the first sports venues ever designed at the outset to transform into a successful and dynamic mixed-use urban neighborhood after the tournament is over.

Successful delivery of FIFA stadiums would additionally mean the country’s strengthened position for future bids.
